1. Buffer: best for most people and small budgets

Buffer is a straightforward scheduling and analytics tool, and our top pick because its pricing is the simplest to predict. Its pricing page lists a free plan for up to three channels with 10 scheduled posts per channel, 100 saved ideas, one user, an AI assistant and API access.
Paid plans are priced per channel. Essentials is $5 a channel each month billed yearly ($60 per channel a year) or $6 billed monthly, and adds unlimited scheduled posts, advanced analytics, a hashtag manager, first-comment scheduling and a community inbox. Team is $10 a channel each month billed yearly and adds unlimited team members. Both paid plans have a 14-day free trial.
Per-channel pricing is fair for solo creators but compounds for businesses. Five channels on Essentials is $25 a month billed yearly, ten is $50. Past that point a flat plan such as SocialBee can be cheaper.

5. Hootsuite: best for larger teams that need governance

Hootsuite is a long-established social media management suite for teams, and the most expensive option here. Its plans page showed £89 per user a month for Standard (up to 10 accounts), £169 for Professional (unlimited accounts, inbox automation, 90-day trend forecasting, custom reports) and £349 for Advanced (approvals and message routing), all billed annually. Enterprise is custom. The page shows prices in GBP to UK visitors, and its FAQ quotes $99, $199 and $399.
The pitch is breadth: scheduling plus a shared inbox, brand monitoring and ads management. A 14-day trial needs no card, though trial accounts have daily posting limits and no bulk scheduling. Hootsuite says annual billing is cheaper than month-to-month but shows no monthly figure.
That per-user pricing means a four-person team on Professional pays £676 a month before tax, which is why it suits agencies and enterprises more than freelancers.
Pros
- Social inbox, monitoring and reporting in one suite
- Unlimited accounts from Professional
- Approvals and routing on Advanced
- 14-day trial without a card
Cons
- Highest price here, charged per user
- Standard limits you to 10 accounts
- Monthly pricing is not shown on the plans page
- Trial has daily posting limits
Pricing: Standard £89/user/month, Professional £169, Advanced £349, billed annually, plus tax; Enterprise custom. GBP as shown to UK visitors, as of 29 October 2026.
Best for: Agencies and companies needing approvals, an inbox and monitoring in one place. Visit Hootsuite.
How we compared these tools
This is desk research, not hands-on testing. We read each vendor's live pricing page on 29 October 2026 and, for Hootsuite and Buffer, also checked billing toggles in a browser. We ran no benchmarks of publishing reliability.
We weighed price transparency and cost at realistic channel counts most heavily (about 35%), then limits such as posts, profiles and history (25%), ease of use and support (20%), network coverage (10%) and lock-in (10%). Currency differs by tool and visitor location, so compare totals in your own currency. More in our marketing tools category.

Frequently asked questions
What is the best social media scheduling tool in 2026?
Buffer is our top pick for most people: its free plan covers three channels and paid plans start at $5 per channel a month billed yearly. SocialBee suits evergreen content, Later suits visual planning, Ocoya adds AI creation, and Hootsuite suits larger teams. The best choice depends on how many channels you manage and whether you need a team workflow.
Is there a free social media scheduler?
Buffer has a free forever plan for up to three channels with 10 scheduled posts per channel, one user and an AI assistant. The other tools here have no free plan: SocialBee, Later and Hootsuite offer 14-day trials, and Ocoya offers a 7-day trial that needs a card. Free tiers suit testing rather than a busy posting schedule.
Which scheduler is cheapest for five social accounts?
At five accounts, Buffer Essentials costs about $25 a month billed yearly and SocialBee Bootstrap $29 monthly or about $24 a month on the $290 annual plan. Ocoya Starter is $29 monthly for five profiles, and Later Starter has one social set at $18.75 billed yearly. Hootsuite is far dearer at £89 per user.
Can these tools recycle old posts automatically?
SocialBee lists content recycling and expiry on its pricing page, built on content categories. We did not find recycling listed on the Buffer, Later or Ocoya plan pages we checked, and Hootsuite's plan page does not mention it either. If evergreen reposting matters, SocialBee is the safest bet; confirm in a trial.
Do social media schedulers support X, Bluesky and Threads?
It varies. SocialBee lists X, Threads and Bluesky among supported networks. Ocoya lists Bluesky, Threads and Mastodon among its integrations. Later lists Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, Threads, YouTube, Pinterest, LinkedIn and Snapchat, but not X. Always check the exact networks and post types on the plan you plan to buy.
Which scheduler suits UK and EU businesses?
All five work from the UK. Ocoya is registered in Lithuania and charges VAT where applicable, Hootsuite showed us prices in pounds, and the others price in US dollars. Compare the total including VAT and exchange rates, and check each vendor's data processing terms if you handle personal data.
